Sisu: an untranslatable Finnish word
The word sisu first appeared in English in a 1940 issue of Time magazine.
Since then, it has remained an enigma. The simple English translations include grit, guts and Finnish courage.

It is an ‘inner strength’ that allows Finns to soldier on, tough it out, defy the odds and face head-on the inevitable setbacks that life brings us, done with determination, endurance and often in silence.
